Cultivate is HFF’s Kids program, which includes art, dance, music, culture and sports. We serve children and youth, ages five through 17, grades K through 12. We offer classes, workshops and programs that allow students to have fun as they grow and learn and develop a strong sense of self and belonging. Our goal is to help kids develop a sense of well being that encompasses body, mind and spirit.
Hispanic family foundations cultivate program, not only nurtures and cultivates a love of the arts and culture among our community youth, but it also allows them the opportunity to showcase their talents in a public setting. Our youth after school classes include courses and workshops, such as Mexican, folklore, dance, ballet, art, classes, music, and sports.
Our year round classes, workshops, and activities provide well, rounded learning opportunities for children in their own language, whether it be English, Spanish, or Spanglish!
Our children learn from local professional artist and international artist that love to mentor and pass on tradition and Art in an approachable manner.
The ballet classes at Cultivate are from January-May and August- December where students meet once a week for one hour–with a total of 4 ballet classes, each designed for different age groups between 5-14. They are designed to provide youth in the Nashville community–specifically immigrants living in poverty–access to quality ballet instruction. Our ballet classes nurture creativity, a positive self-esteem, and discipline by creating a supportive environment where students can feel confident and culturally appreciated. The instructor’s approach to student learning, both cognitively and physically, is based on experimenting with multiple teaching methods, such as focusing on verbal, visual, and tactile approaches to learning new steps and terminology.
The Folklore classes at Cultivate are from January-May and August- December where students meet once a week for one hour–with a total of 5 folklore classes, each designed for different age groups between 5-17.. Through free structured instruction in regional dances, traditional music, and authentic attire, students gain a deep appreciation for their cultural heritage while developing essential dance techniques, rhythm, and stage presence. Some traditional dances that students are taught from different regions of Mexico include Jalisco, Veracruz, Michoacan, and Nuevo Leon with each bringing their unique style, costumes, and musical influences. This program serves as a living testament to the vibrancy of Mexican culture, ensuring traditions and Folklore are celebrated and passed down generations to come.
The Guitar classes at Cultivate are from January-May and August- December where students meet once a week for one hour–with a total of 3 guitar classes, each designed for different age groups between 6-16. Our guitar classes are designed to provide students with the foundational skills to play the guitar, understand music theory, and build technical proficiency. Through engaging, hands-on lessons, students learn discipline teamwork and perseverance as they practice and perform together
The Piano classes at Cultivate are from January-May and August- December where students meet once a week for one hour–with a total of 2 piano classes, each designed for different age groups between 6-16.
The Cultivate Summer camp is an enriching program designed for children ages 7-12 for one week, 5 hours a day. In this camp, instructors provide a safe and engaging environment to learn, play, and grow. There are a number of different activities such as soccer, dance, music, art, and cultural experiences that aim to foster creativity, teamwork, and confidence. This summer camp ensures that children in underserved communities have access to meaningful and fun opportunities for growth and self-expression
The Sabre League at Cultivate is a partnered program with The Predators where players ages 6-12 participate in organized street hockey practices for 6 weeks. This camp is designed to introduce immigrant children to the sport of street hockey as it is not well known in the minority communities. Players learn the fundamentals of the sport including stickhandling, passing, shooting, and working successfully as a team. The instructor focuses on encouraging children to engage in the activities, build confidence, and develop life skills that are also important in life such as communication and discipline.
The Soccer camp at Cultivate is a partnered activity with YouthCo where players ages 5-12 participate in organized soccer practices for 4-weeks. Practices are designed to teach basic soccer skills while promoting physical activity, teamwork, and a fun environment. A safe and supportive environment is prioritized so players can grow confidence, resilience, and a sense of community.
