The Spanish Literacy Program is designed to help Spanish-speaking immigrant adults develop essential reading and writing skills in Spanish.
This program provides a supportive learning environment by fostering confidence in reading and writing by learning letter sounds, syllable blending, and connecting literacy with personal and cultural storytelling.
Through this program students are able to navigate daily tasks such as reading instructions, traffic signs, filling out forms and understanding documents more easily compose simple text messages, use online resources, and engage with digital platforms in Spanish.
The classes are given on Fridays from 6-7:30pm starting in August and ending in May. Some components of the class include but are not limited to:
Reading and Writing Skills: Students engage in activities to improve their ability to read and write in Spanish. This includes reading short stories, articles, or educational materials, followed by exercises that help with writing sentences and paragraphs.
Vocabulary Building: The class focuses on expanding vocabulary, with activities like flashcards, word games, or thematic word lists (e.g., everyday vocabulary, workplace terms, or health-related language).
Foundations of Grammar: Understanding nouns, verbs, adjectives, etc.

Basic Conversation Skills
Spelling and Accent Marks
